Creating a Pergola

The photos below show the progression of the transformation of the back yard, from the demolition of the swimming pool, to the creation of the pergola and the accompanying raised flower beds...

First we took down the above-ground pool...

Lynn and Audrey in the pool in earlier times...

Beginning the demolition - liner out, walls off...

  All but two walls gone...

Demolition complete, the pieces are piled up for disposal...

Two summers later, we begin the construction of the pergola...

Staking out the posts, making sure it's big enough for the hammock...

The first three posts set in concrete and aligned...

All the posts up, cross-beams and long-beams in place...

Top slats (for hanging vines) and side slats (for climbing vines) done, the pergola is complete...

Beginning the raised bed garden, with the fountain in place..

  Raised bed done, planting begins...
